First Born

First Born is an immersive, intimate observational documentary that explores the child-raising process from ages 0-5 in three different Indigenous lands in Australia, Canada and the United States. The documentary reveals continuities shared within Indigenous culture as a whole that have been studied by scholars yet remain largely unknown to global audiences and have been commonly distorted by mainstream media. First Born will interweave stories from these communities generating awareness of valuable practices and approaches, helping to build cultural bridges worldwide between Indigenous and non-Indigenous audiences centered in respect, understanding, and safeguarding of threatened Indigenous cultural heritage. A secondary goal of the doc is to dispel the myths and misconceptions of degraded Indigenous culture and instead elevate their traditions as a source of knowledge, as part of a wider global cultural paradigm shift long overdue.
